Justin Compton- IFBB PRO
My name is Justin Compton. I recently finished 5th at my pro debut at the IFBB Wings of Strength in Chicago, IL. Stepping back a few years, I got into bodybuilding when when I was 15 years old. My parents had bought me a home gymand I used it one day. The following day I woke up and had the "next day soreness" and I actually enjoyed the feeling. I knew I had accomplished something. I continued to train every day, multiple times a day.
As a teenager in high school during summer break, I was too young to work, so all I had to do all day was sit around the house, but unlike most kids I didn't play video games and watch TV. I was lifting several times a day and eating all day long. I was always a small kid growing up. I picked up my first weight at 130lbs. During that summer off school, I was able to gain 20+ pounds in 3 months while staying lean. I had no idea how to eat or train but when I came back to school I caught alot of attention as people noticed my gains. I fell in love with lifting weights and wanted to pursue things. I trained as much as I could in high school and entered my first competition at 18 years old after I graduated.
I won the teen division out of 13 teens in one of the largest regional show in the US. I then went on to compete in 5 more shows winning 4 teen divisions and finishing as high as 3rd in the mens open before turning 20 years old. I then put the stage aside for a few years. I went on to Morehead State University and finished up my degree in Engineering. During that time I also worked as a Tax Professional doing income taxes during the spring time.
As I was finishing up my degree I got back on stage. Being in school and finishing my education was my number one priority but I knew that if I really wanted both, I could find a way to make it happen. I finished my last semester while prepping for the 2010 NPC Kentucky Muscle where I won the Novice and Open overall as a lightheavyweight at 194lbs. I then went to persue the NPC Junior nationals the following year at 210-215lb heavyweight finishing 2nd behind the overall winner. After this show I wasn't sure about doing engineering at this point in my life, so I persued another area.
I studied for awhile and became a Mortgage Loan Officer. This might sound like a simply task but I will say those exams were much harder than what I had accomplished in college. I did this for a short bit while prepping for the 2012 NPC Nationals. I came to Atlanta with a vengences after finishing 13th in the show the year prior. I ended up winning my class and earning my IFBB pro card. This was alot for me to soak in, as I only thought becoming a pro was a dream and now it just became reality for me that I am amongst the most elite group of athletes in the world.
I set out for my pro before in Chicago and I came in 12lbs bigger and was able to crack into the top 5 in my pro debut, finishing behind 4 other guys who have all won pro shows and competed at the Olympia stage. This is only the beginning to my journey. I plan to take the year off and focus on being bigger, harder and denser for 2014. As of right now, depending on the IFBB schedule for 2014, I have my sights set on the Toronto pro to open the season, but may decide to start at the NY pro since they are so close.
