5 Questions with Shawn "Flexatron" Rhoden
by
Shawn Ray
1) You seemed to have come out of "No Where" to upset a few names and even Veterans at the North America Championships walking off with the heavy & Overall Titles, how sweet was that for you and why?
A) Shawn it was a very sweet victory. It’s been a long time coming. A lot of people wouldn’t understand the struggle time and energy that was put in to getting there. When I decided to compete again, I know there were a lot of people that didn’t give me a chance or the credit that I would be able to do this well at the show.
2) What's a typical "Day in the Life?"
A) My day starts very early, as I am up by 4:45 am at the gym by 5am for cardio and eating my first meal by 6am. After that, its work, checking emails, reading blueprints and doing bids for work (home remodeling). I'm back to gym by 12:30pm to train, followed by answering more emails and then following up with clients. All this while consuming 7 meals through out the day. I have a cardio session @8:30pm 4days a week too.
3) You have the Nickname, "Flexatron" tell us how you got the at moniker and its meaning?
A) "Flexatron" was given to me by a friend of mind Peter Cardona, while practicing my posing one day. He said I look like half "FLEX & Half Machine." I was posing to the Terminator sound track. The name just stuck with me ever since. Thanks FLEX!
4) Word on the street you had a 7 Year Layoff and 8 months to prepare for the N. America, please elaborate and set the record straight?
A) Yes, I took a 7 year layoff. After the 2002NPC Nationals, my day was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. It hit me very hard and I lost the desire to do a lot of stuff including bodybuilding. My dad was my biggest supporter. I decided to make a come back after Thanksgiving. I really haven’t had a full year of training so everything was jammed into 8months. My body responded very well to the heavy lifting and the diet. So guys watch out I’m coming!
5) Please finish this sentence, "In 5 years from now I will have accomplished.....?"
A) To be an accomplished Pro Bodybuilder . Winning the Arnold Classic has been my life long dream and a Promise I made to my dad and myself when i began this journey!
Thank you,
S RAY
