Just read a small article from a trainer. Anyway he was advocating that muscles need 40 seconds of tension to grow.
I know this is debatable but were did this theory come from?
Also when they say 40 seconds I would assume they mean total time...not each sets has to equal 40 seconds right?

Per set and Poliquin and others appear to have pulled it out of their rear ends.
Probably based on ideas about fatigue times for various fiber type if I had to guess at a mechanism.
