Запомните, речь не идет о тотальных ограничениях! Если вы вздумаете очень мало есть, то лишь повредите себе. От диеты организм ослабнет, и вы не сможете развить тот уровень интенсивности спортивных усилий, который приводит к успеху. В самом деле, как можно часами "качаться" и ежедневно помногу заниматься аэробикой, если сидишь на скудном рационе?

Что же нужно? Начните с исключения жирной пищи. Поменьше масла, жареных, тушеных и любых других, пропитанных жирами, блюд. Поменьше майонеза, сыров и колбас. Если мясо, то вареное. Если овощи, то сваренные или тушеные на воде.

Почему надо начинать с жиров? Дело в том, что они играют главную роль в нашем ожирении. Чем больше жиров съешь, тем больше их отложится под кожей.

Вторыми по "вредности" для вас идут сладости. В ответ на сладкое организм выделяет гормон инсулин. Он стимулирует восприимчивость жировых клеток к пищевым жирам. Образно говоря, они "открываются" для жира и легко его впитывают. В этом смысле кондитерские изделия вдвойне опасны. Они содержат и сахар, и жиры. Ясно, что от пирожных и тортов вам надо отказаться в первую очередь. Но есть и скрытые опасности. Например, прохладительные напитки, та же "Кока-кола". В одном ее стакане содержится 6 столовых ложек сахара!

Если такая диета не помогает, двигайтесь дальше - ограничьте потребление хлеба, макарон и вермишели. Вместо них ешьте больше овощей, картофеля и злаковых каш. Это уж точно сработает!

И еще. Запомните: нельзя то "садиться" на диету, то бросать ее. В результате такого "маятника" вы получите талию, как у бегемота. Механизм здесь такой. Сначала с помощью диеты вы сбрасываете несколько килограммов. Потом возвращаетесь к обычному режиму питания и снова их набираете. Но уже с небольшим излишком! Больше того, как показывает опыт, новый жир откладывается именно вокруг талии. Причина вам уже известна: жировые клетки на талии самые большие и "жироемкие".

Выкинь из своего рациона жирную пищу,еш толька постное мясо лучше толька куриное и говяжие филе,по больше овощей и фруктов,после 18:00 старайся не есть,есле есть ужасно будеш хотеть по пей чяйку(разумеется без булочек и пичения)ну и всё что самое главное надо соблюдать,дальше действуй сам.Удачи.

А я худела с помощью диеты Аткинса. Причём за 3 недели перед соревнованиями травмировала спину, и тренировки мне были запрещены (лежала все 3 недели), и мышцы мои не пострадали, а процент жира был 10 (для женщин нормальный процент от 21 до 31). И как видите предписания Аткинса не подводят ( я - слева).

Пару недель назад в "Комсомольской правде" была напечатана статья о так называемой "Кремлевской диете", придерживаясь которой наши политики семимильными шагами шли к нормализации своего веса в глазах общества.

Здесь собственно описание Диеты

А здесь таблица очков, присвоенных продуктам, в зависимости от их полезности и вредности по мнению составителя диеты.

Мое наблюдение показало, что придерживаясь этой таблицы, идеальная диета спортсмена это сало и водка (а мы-то тут сидим - считаем фигню всякую, типа калорий ), тк они имеют минимальное количество очков, а именно 0. Ну можно запить это все поллитрой оливкового масла - оно ведь тоже 0-очковое.
Я понимаю, что они хотят исключить из диеты углеводы, но простите, по ней я и недели в спортзале не проживу. И что самое интересное, но к этому уже все, наверное, давно привыкли, что ни в этой статье, ни в ссылках в правой колонке сайта ни слова не написано про физическую активность.

Ну и собственно все вытекает из комментариев infarx - диета жир+белок.

Мозги завянут раньше чем похудеешь, отсюда видать такие и результаты в государстве. А я все думал это алкоголизм дает дебилов, а нет, нарушение углеводного обмена...
Ну это так погорячке.

ИМХО не нравится мне эта диета. "Урезание" одного из компонентов питания, с попыткой перевода на нефизиологичный обмен веществ - большая нагрзка и не факт, что в перспективе она пройдет без последствий.

На диетических сайтах бываешь?
Сейчас на данную диету бум. Причем появилась она не пару недель назад, а немного раньше.
Если есть желание, пройдись по наиболее популярным женским форумам. В любом найдешь топик по данной диете.
Причем на ней именно худеют. Правда, изначально большинство имеют именно лишний вес, причем часто существенный. Во-вторых, грамотные люди все в тех же топиках советуют не увлекаться вареной колбасой, салом и водкой.
Т.е., имхо, данный вариант - это диета для "обывателя". Пусть уж лучше сидят на низкоуглеводке в таком виде, чем на какой-нить 3+ (кто не в курсе, это 3 дня кефир, 3 дня грудки, 3 дня рис) или диете маникенщиц вида "С утра чай+яйцо в смятку,через 3 часа 150 гр.творога,через 3 часа опять творог и все" и так 3 дня подряд.

Нет, на сайтах не бываю, не надо так , просто у меня муж работает в "Комсомольской правде" и принес мне про эту диету статью и коммментарии к ней, которых нет на сайте, над ней мы и изголялись вчера весь вечер. Я сама понимаю, что это диета не дня ББ-ров, просто думала повеселить вас. Не получилось...

То гречку обзовут "чисто белковым питанием".

Диета Аткинса (с вариациями) помогла миллионам (не побоюсь такой оценки). Беда в том, что вместо того, чтобы прочитать работы самого Аткинса или солидные книги, где все расписано детально, народ "ведется" на вторичные-третичные "пересказы" в популярных изданиях. Конечно, вреда от такого будет больше, чем пользы.
Я уже кстати упоминал о том, что низкоуглеводная диета появилась очень давно, и по легенде, в Англии ее активно "двигал в массы" один гробовщик. Тогда в Англии была напряженка с лесом (топили-то углем, вот и остались без деревьев) и заказать гроб стоило бешеных бабок. И он всем советовал, типа, не хотите быть толстыми , не хотите, чтобы ваши похороны обошлись в целое состояние родне - не ешьте хлеба, картошки и прочего, а налегайте на бекон и мясо.

а сам Аткинс хоть и умер в результате ДТП, но вообще страдал ожирением. Писали мои работу по Аткинсу.. могу сюда скинуть.. правда на английском. Но тебе не составит труда прочитать все минусы такой диеты. правда, и плюсы тоже есть ))

Personal records of Dr. Atkins
Personal problems forced Dr. Atkins to work at strategy and tactics of weight-loss. His backbreaking work was rewarded by success. However, many scholars consider that Atkins diet causes more harm than good. “When Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution was first published, the President of the American College of Nutrition said, "Of all the bizarre diets that have been proposed in the last 50 years, this is the most dangerous to the public if followed for any length of time"” [1]
Several years ago, Dr. Atkins died because of fatal accident at age of 75, putting his devoted supporters into a tremendous shock. His devoted supporters didn’t want to believe in such loss. His widow, however, along with the workers of the Atkins Medical Center tried to prevent the publishing decision of a commission of experts regarding Dr. Atkins’ death. Why? Along with the reasons for Dr. Atkins’ death, the commission also discovered all the diseases and abnormalities in Dr. Atkins’ body.
What a sensation it was! The man, who taught people how to lose weight, weighted 117 kg himself. Not only was Atkins of excessive weight, but he also suffered from obesity! Atkins had heart disease, high blood pressure, and a number of heart attacks. Veronica Atkins confirmed that her husband had many problems with his heart. However, according to her words, it did not have anything in common with propagated style of nutrition.
By the end of the 20th century, Atkins succeeded in finding a decision for one of the biggest problems of humankind. He guaranteed that everyone, who limits carbohydrate consumption, would lose weight. Based on his philosophy, when a body is deprived of fat, it starts to decompose its own deposits. It will decompose fats that enter the body with food and than, as far as food value of fats approximately two time less than carbohydrates food value, it will start to decompose its own fats
As a result of his findings, Atkins’ diet proposed to refuse the consumption of sweets, fruit, and vegetables that contain high levels of sugar (such as carrots and red beet) and substitute it with food rich in proteins and fats (meat, butter, etc).
Doctor Atkins recommended “programs with significantly more animal products than is typically consumed by the average American. Already, Americans eat approximately 40% of calories from animal products 1 and as a result of such nutritional consumption patterns, we have seen a tragic skyrocketing in cancer rates and heart disease rates in the last 50 years” [10]
It is of no wonder that Dr. Atkins’ book has become number one bestseller in the world. Millions of people started to lose weight according to Atkins’ recommendations. People were in a state of euphoria. National Federation of Public Health awarded Dr. Atkins “Man of the Year” in 1985. In 1990, Dr. Atkins was awarded by International Organization of Alternative Medicine. Two years later, he reprinted the book “Atkins Diet Revolution” and celebrated twenty years of his brilliant idea’s existence. Even though the problem of excessive weight still existed, the book was a tremendous success. Many celebrities, including Renee Zellweger, Jerry Hollywell, Jennifer Lopez, Mathew Perry, Jennifer Aniston, and Bill Clinton have become his strong supporters. Yet, the more supporters Dr. Atkins generated, the more alarm it caused.
The audience was delighted: the dietitian of the century was not imposing any limitations on the quantity of food consumed. Patients were suggested to eat as much as they would like, and still lose weight!
Patients saw considerable results and completely ignored health problems generated by the diet. Ignored side effects included such serious problems as kidney and liver failure. Furthermore, as the immunity decreased, heart attacks were observed more often, not to mention such unpleasant side effects as bad smell from the mouth, sickness, headaches, and constipations. These problems would usually take place at a stage when patients had to refuse consumption of bread, potatoes, fruit, and other sources of cellulose and carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates, aside from being a source of energy, are also source of good mood. Refusing carbohydrates for long periods has negative impact on the brain. Atkins Diet prevents development of serotonin, also known as a hormone of happiness, – a chemical substance responsible for mood. Patients who were on Atkins Diet for a long period of time were observed angry, short-tempered, and suffering from irritability. Furthermore, patients experienced insecurity caused by low levels of serotonin, which is said to send signals of safety to the brain. It can be then partially explained why it is easy to stop cravings with sweets that contain carbohydrates.
Jennifer Aniston lost more than 15 kg to receive a key part in series entitled “Friends”. Although she got the key role, she has developed a tendency to become corpulence as soon as she goes off the diet. Furthermore, drastic weight loss interfered with her hormone system and psychical health. Refusing carbohydrates for a long time also did its part on Jennifer’s sense of humor; she was the only person who did not laugh at “Afterbirth” premiere on February 27, 2004.
George Michael, who was one of Atkins’ supporters, produced a new album entitled “Patience” – the first album after 1999. Critics smashed the album to pieces. One of the sources was under the impression that lyrics were written by a deeply depressed individual.
Renee Zellweger had to gain weight to star in “Brigit Jones Diary”. It was quite easy to gain weight, but it was not that easy to lose it. She succeeded in becoming slim again with the help of Dr. Atkins’ diet. However, the after effects included shortness or temper and constant mood fluctuations.
Past instances suggest that after the founder’s death, the finding undergoes changes in stands, morals, and values. Colette Heimovitz, the director of Research Center of Medical Dr. Atkins Center, now recommends limiting quantity of saturated fats in nutrition. In the past, the diet was allowed to contain high quantity of all kinds of fats: beef, pork, mutton, butter, etc. Now Dr. Heimovitz suggests that saturated fats should make up no more than 20% of daily ration. She proposes to make lean red meat and eggs the source of saturated fats. The main part of nutrition, however, should consist of unsaturated fats found in some vegetables.
Unfortunately, the latest information from Dr. Atkins Medical Center did not reach patients trying to lose weight just yet. On the contrary, each month more than 150,000 million books on Atkins Diet are sold. So, what is the idea of Dr. Atkins Diet?
Atkins Diet
Atkins Diet is a lifestyle of rational nutrition based on consumption of healthy balanced food and food supplements. Atkins Diet limits consumption of refined carbohydrates (food allowance usually consists of 50% of such carbohydrates) such as sweets, farinaceous foods, cereals, and products containing starch. We also acknowledge that “refined carbohydrates are dangerous; however, rather than replacing refined carbohydrates with an unlimited license to eat more saturated-fat-rich animal products, they are replaced with high phytochemical-rich vegetables, beans and fruit”. [10]
Some researchers found out that Dr. Atkins bases his diet on the principle of separate nutrition, meaning that a patient should not consumer carbohydrates and fat in one sitting, unless the goal is weight gain.
Necessary arrangements before starting a diet:
• Discontinue medicine use
• Undergo medical examinations
• Focus attention on cholesterol, glucose, and insulin levels
• Atkins Diet is strictly prohibited to people suffering from diabetes
The main aims of Atkins Diet
1. Accelerate metabolism levels using carbohydrates as the most convenient “fuel”
2. Stabilize and maintain sugar at a constant level to avoid symptoms of hypo-glycaemia such as carbohydrate dependence, constant cravings, daydreaming, etc
3. Deliver the body from sweets and other nutrition dependences..
Stages of Atkins Diet
The diet consists of three main stages. The first stage is used to change process of metabolism and physical/psychological adaptation to new habits of nutrition. The next stage is aimed at achieving desired weight and maintaining it without limiting to calories and food value.
The first, stimulating stage usually lasts for two to three weeks. Carbohydrates must be limited to 14-20 gram per day. During this time, the metabolism stabilizes and a patient loses up to 2-6 kg, depending on primary health condition. In addition, cravings reduce due to food rich in fats and proteins, as well as due to ketoses creation. The only side effects are weakness and giddiness during the first days of diet.
Stage I
• Daily consumption of carbohydrates should not exceed 20 gram.
• There is no calorie and food quantity limitation. However, it is recommended to eat only when cravings occur and stop eating when cravings disappear. If feel inconsiderable hunger is felt, a small snack is allowed
• A strict limitation is imposed on products rich in carbohydrates
• The diet mainly consists of proteins, fats (mayonnaise, olive oil, butter and other oils can be used without any limitation) and their combinations. Products consisting of combination of proteins and carbohydrates or fats and carbohydrates are not allowed during the first stage
Products you can eat without limit:
• All kinds of meat: pork, beef, mutton, bacon, ham, summer sausages, etc (sausages should be avoided)
• All kinds of fish: tuna, salmon, sardines, mackerel, herrings, etc
• All kind of poultry: chicken, goose, duck, game, etc
• Seafood: seafood contains inconsiderable quantity of carbohydrates
• Eggs: cooked without carbohydrate additions
• Cheeses: most kinds of cheese contain inconsiderable quantity of carbohydrates
• Salad vegetables: lettuce, garden radishes, chicory, parsley, cucumber, fennel, paprika, celery
• Young sprouts: in small quantities
• Mushrooms
• Olives
• Radish
• Herbs for salads and cooking: fennel, dill, thyme, paprika, basil, ginger, rosemary, cayenne pepper, garlic
• It is recommended using vegetable oil, lemon juice, vinegar, and spices for salads
Products with no restrictions:
Cabbage of all kinds, asparagus, aubergine, spinach, green peas, avocado, tomatoes, onions, bamboo sprouts, artichoke, etc. Sour cream can be used in salads in small quantities and must be included in daily portion of carbohydrates.
Beverages
Water, mineral water, herbal tea without sugar, drinks with sweeteners (should contain 0% of carbohydrates). Consumption of alcohol should be avoided during the first stage of diet.
Oils and fats
The healthiest oils are from vegetables: olive, nut, soy, sesame, sunflower oil. The best adipose is cod-liver oil and natural butter. Artificial oils such as margarine are strictly prohibited. “Light” foods are forbidden as well because they contain artificially produced oils and increased level of carbohydrates.
Sweeteners
Saccharine and cyclamate are allowed; however, sweeteners such as sucrose, maltose, and fructose are strictly prohibited.
It is highly recommended to use the following food supplements:
• High-quality multivitamin with minerals and microelements
• Chrome (chromium picolonate)
• L-Carnitine (recommended for people involved in high physical activity)
The second stage of Atkins Diet
After all the necessary changes that take place in a body during the first stage of Atkins diet, the main aim is to find individual levels of carbohydrates. This stage will allow a patient to lose weight more gradually. Second stage also recommends increasing carbohydrate quantities.
If a patient has already achieved desired weight loss during the first stage, carbohydrate intake level must now be found to control dynamics of weight level. If the goal is to continue losing weight, the necessary levels of carbohydrates that will allow further weight loss must be established.
The third stage of Atkins Diet
The last stage of diet is focused on maintaining achieved weight levels during a lifetime. If the optimum quantity of carbohydrates for daily nutrition is already established, then a patient can enjoy life without fear of becoming fat again.
Although all the steps sound easy and the results sound unbelievably good, many doctors still consider Atkins diet dangerous.

Atkins Diet: Is it really as safe as seems to be?
Before we start speaking about cons of Atkins Diet, I want to express sincere sympathy to his ideas. I consider that many of his theories and doctrines were given as axioms, whereas they were only personal opinions that can be challenged. I agree with his understanding of “simple” and “compound” carbohydrates. I also agree with his association of insulin and fat accumulation. I consider that the more information people have, the more qualified dietitians consult people, the better. However, I propose you to read my research paper from the very beginning till the end. If you’ll decide to start Atkins Diet after you read my paper, I applause to you for taking decision after getting acquainted with completely opposite points of view. So, let’s get started.
Glycogen = fuel for your body.
When a person eats healthy food with all necessary proteins, fats and carbohydrates, carbohydrates split to glucose. Glucose is known as “blood sugar”. Part of glucose is transported to muscle tissues and is kept there as glycogen. Glycogen, in return, is a substance that fuels an organism.
Glycogen is used to process energy that nourishes clonus. Clonus, as defined by The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, is an abnormality in neuromuscular activity characterized by rapidly alternating muscular contraction and relaxation.

“High fat diets are unquestionably associated with obesity, 14 and meat eating actually correlates with weight gain, not weight loss, unless you radically cut carbohydrates out of your diet to maintain a chronic ketosis” [10] A patient does not notice radical changes during the first days of a new diet because there is still a certain supply of glycogen left in the body. During the first days, the body starts to increase processing of ketoses. Ketoses are intermediate forms in process of fat metabolism. In a case of slow metabolism, ketoses are present in blood and urine in large quantities; however, the diet makes ketoses’ processing act as an intermediary on the way to fast metabolism. Use all supplies of glycogen and you’ll feel it. (Note: in case you consume huge quantities of proteins, you, probably, will avoid ketosis even if you don’t consume carbohydrates. However, it makes theory of law-carbohydrate ketosis useless). Atkins convinces that presence of ketoses indicates the start of fat disintegration. He also convinces that they nourish brains. It is partially truth. However, there is certain information that Dr. Atkins prefers not to disclose to his patients:

• Long-term periods of ketosis influence chemical content of blood, thereby considerably increasing the risk of heart attack
• Keto-acidosis affects oxygen transmission to cells, creating a risk of developing catastrophic consequences (from diseases of respiratory tracts to serious problems with metabolism)
• Keto-acidosis results in accumulation of toxic ammonia, which can lead to lethal outcome.
I don’t want to say that any person, who will have ketosis, has risk to die. I just want to underline that such risk exists in situation a person considers as ideal physiological condition of healthy person and have intention to lead such way of life on a permanent basis. Ketosis is not fatal, but keto-acidosis can result in fatal ending. Ketoses level increases when there is lack of carbohydrates. Such non-diagnosed disorders as weak pulse, heavy breathing, and heart problems are observed in many Americans suffering from unbalanced sugar levels in their blood.
Under such circumstances, liver acts as a filter that protects the body from abnormal level of certain chemical substances in blood. Excessive filtering brings to large accumulations of acids that can result in kidney, liver, and urinary tract failures.
According to medical information, 1 gram of glycogen binds 2-4 grams of water. In such a way, if the amount of glycogen supply is reduced to muscle tissues due to low-carbohydrate diet, the body suffers from de-hydration. Atkins also confirms that primary loss of weight can be explained by loss of water.
Is there sufficient probative evidence of Atkins Diet
Actually, there isn’t any long-term research of Atkins Diet results (3-5 years) that wasn’t financed by Dr Atkins. The last research conducted in Duke University was sponsored by Dr. Atkins. The grant does not reduce the value of this research; however, it raises more questions than answers. Researches of this nature tend to use kilograms as criterion of effectiveness, whereas criterion of body components is left unattended.
A patient losing muscle tissue instead of fat, notices positive results in weight loss. On the other hand, the patient is not aware of long-term effects of negative impacts on metabolism. The second serious “minus” is short-term research. It is well known that all short-term diets stimulate short-term (temporary) weight loss.
Supporters of Atkins Diet reduce daily calories
All supporters of Atkins Diet refuse consuming sugars and farinaceous foods. While it might act as a positive step towards stabilizing sugar level in blood and favoring, large reductions in calories carry serious consequences. Although Atkins teaches his supporters not to reduce quantity of calories, they gradually reduce this quantity.
Let’s explain this interesting mechanism. You can eat butter, fatty cheese, sour cream but you aren’t allowed to eat potatoes and bread. A person’s body is a mechanism, which, when is refused one thing, compensates itself with something similar. Those who are on diet don’t have such possibility. Moreover, they reduce even quantity of allowed fats in comparison with quantity of fats they used before diet. They are allowed to eat bacon and eggs, but cannot consume cereals and toasts for breakfast due to carbohydrates. They can eat cheeseburger without roll. On the other hand, although steak contains more fats in comparison with products rich in carbohydrates, it contains a lot of water. Reducing carbohydrate quantity does not only intervene with our body’s functions, it also makes it very difficult to maintain a healthy calorie balance.

It is also useful to remind that diet based on high quantity of fats and proteins decreases appetite. When uncontrolled sugar consumption is reduced, sugar levels stabilize and a desire to eat something sweet reduces to almost nothing. The Atkins’ diet operates the same way; it reduces food consumption in order to reduce cravings. However, such practice does not only lead to calorie reduction in the short run, it also leads to bad appetite in the long run. It means that you not only reduce quantity of calories, but also reduce your desire to eat. Other explanation is that “many high fat foods are unpalatable in large quantities without carbohydrates” [7]
Atkins Diet supposes consumption of food rich in fats and proteins. Such food as “the meat, fish and eggs in the Atkins diet control hunger and stop people eating their usual quantity of calories” [6]
Is such weight loss safe?
Let’s remember what happens when body looses water. We already know that glucose (accumulated as glycogen) is the main source of fuel for muscle tissues. In situation when calorie consumption is limited and the body doesn’t have this fuel, finds alternative ways to produce glucose. Such alternative way includes amino acids. Amino acids are the “blocks” that build proteins. Three amino acids, lysine, valyne, and isolycine can transform into glucose easily. The body can get these amino acids, dissimilating proteins or metabolizing other amino acids. Such proteins for dissimilation must come with food, otherwise the body will use muscle tissue.
In such a way, consumption of carbohydrates is reduced. Your body needs glucose. You don’t get glucose in necessary quantities and the body finds way to produce it, using amino acids as a source of glucose. The body needs either to dissimilate proteins it gets with food or… starts to dissimilate muscle tissues. In such a way, muscle tissues become the most preferable source of glucose because it is very difficult to supply organism with daily necessary proteins.
The optimum quantity of proteins is 2-3 grams per 1 kg of weight. An average person weighs around 70 kg. 100 g of chicken contains 20 g of proteins. Two eggs contain 12 g of proteins. These calculations signify that at least 700 g of chicken per day must be consumed to supply the body with necessary proteins and prevent it from using muscle tissues as a source of glucose. Sure, it is very difficult to eat lot of meat. In such a way, it explains the reduced quantity of calories per day.
Since the body does not receive enough proteins as a result of dieting, it uses muscle tissue as a source of glucose. When muscle tissue is used, metabolism reduces immediately leading to immediate weight gain as soon as the diet is completed.
Negative impact on metabolism
Many people believe that all low-carbohydrate diets stimulate their metabolism. However, an argument to support this statement is yet to be found. Lack of carbohydrates and necessary amount of calories not only slows down the metabolism, but it also has a negative impact on the thyroid gland. It changes the production of T3 and T4 hormones – the hormonal instrument of regulating temperature of a body. As a result, deceleration of metabolism leads to a threat of thyroid gland disorders. Supporters of Atkins Diet claim that it is not correct to speak about analogical effect in relation to women. They say that mice are herbivorous (rodents), whereas a man has different structure. For that reason, “Atkins Nutritional” rests assured and ensures that women should not have any problems with reproductive function. and bring as example results of other researches. These researches show that nutrition limited in carbohydrates increases probability of conception even for women suffering from polycystosis of ovaries.
The upper limit for followers of Atkins Diet is 35% proteins of the whole daily ration. However, fanatic supporters of Atkins Diet can consume even bigger proportion.
6. Atkins Diet can put you in bad mood
Popular Atkins Diet and other diets based on limiting carbohydrates can result in depressions. A research team of American scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology claim that necessary quantities of carbohydrates in daily ration favor the formation of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin, in its turn, takes an active part in mood fluctuations.
The author of research Doctor Judith Wurtman explains it as follows. When serotonin is synthesized and becomes active in the brain and aims at signaling satiety before the stomach is completely filled and stretched. Serotonin also is responsible not only for regulation of appetite, but for emotions as well.
From time to time man feels necessity to eat something sweet or starchy. “According to Dr Wurtman's clinical studies, if the carbohydrate craver eats protein instead, he or she will become grumpy, irritable or restless. Filling up on fatty foods like bacon or cheese is no answer. That will just make you tired, lethargic and apathetic”. [5]
The scientists also noted that formation of serotonin takes place only with carbohydrates (quickly-assimilated). Besides, food rich in proteins bothers serotonin procession. So, “a meal like pasta will allow the brain to make serotonin, but eating chicken and potatoes will actually prevent serotonin from being made. This may explain why people may still feel hungry even after they have eaten a 20-ounce steak” [5]
7. Atkins Diet can contribute to some oncological diseases.
Scientists from World Foundation of Cancer Researches suggest that people could prevent at least 4 million cases of cancer if they would eat less meat and more vegetables. Special attention is given to stomach, intestines, and rectum cancer. Scientists believe that people could prevent at least 75% of diseases if they refused from meat in favor of vegetables.
They confirm that “increased consumption of animal products combined with the decreased consumption of fresh produce have the most powerful effect on increasing one's risk for various kinds of cancer. Atkins convinces his followers that he knows better than leading nutritional research scientists who proclaim that, “meat consumption is an important factor in the etiology of human cancer” [10]. Dr Atkins doesn’t mention about this aspect in his strategy of nutrition.
Facts about Atkins Diet
According to recent researches, more than three million Englishmen have become supporters of Atkins Diet. Approximately 7% of men and more than 10% of women tried or still follow Atkins Diet, because of Jennifer Aniston’s tremendous results. According to a questionnaire compiled by “Today with Trevor McDonald”, 85% of those who tried Atkins Diet consider it effective. More than 70% recommend it to friends and relatives.
Although scientists argue about the effectiveness of this diet, bringing out evidences of dangerous side effects, only 1% becomes convinced, according to research conducted by YouGo. Fifty percent of respondents consider that further researches will prove effectiveness of food rich in fats and proteins, whereas 41% of Englishmen and Americans consider Atkins Diet partially effective.
Atkins weight loss doesn’t last: clinically proved
Clinic researches have confirmed that Atkins Diet is not effective, according to Reuters. When the researches compared results of the same test conducted on two groups for the period of six months, the low-carbohydrate dies was more effective than low-fat diet. After one year, the results were the same. As a result, Professor Arne Astrup from RVA University (Copenhagen, Denmark) came to a conclusion that Atkins Diet is not different from other diets in spite of “aggressive advertising and extreme popularity” [8]
During the first six months, patients lose weight due to fat reduction; however, weight gain is observed once the diet is terminated. Furthermore, patients notice headaches, muscle weakness, and diarrhea. Astrup considers these abnormalities the signals of lack of carbohydrates and cellulose.
97% of dietitians do not recommend Atkins Diet to their patients. Dietitians strictly prohibit this diet to people suffering from diabetes, pregnant women, nursing mothers and people with liver disorders.
“The American Heart Association states: "Individuals who follow these diets are therefore at risk for compromised vitamin and mineral intake, as well as potential cardiac, renal [kidney], bone, and liver abnormalities overall." Low carb diets like the Atkins diet may also hasten the onset of type II diabetes. In short, concluded the September 2004 review in The Lancet, "low-carbohydrate diets cannot be recommended”” [2]
Conclusion
Atkins advises to eat vitamins and pills with minerals to provide the body with all necessary elements that cannot be consumed with daily food. A patient loses weight because he/she reduces quantity of daily food due to aversion to fatty products.
Dr Atkins presents several facts to explain his diet. One of these facts states that metabolism disorders lead to weight gain disregarding the quantity of food consumed daily. Many people suffering from excessive weight, by Atkins’ opinion, suffer from disorders of carbohydrate balance. His diet, on contrary, is based on reduced quantity of carbohydrates, brought to minimum. Organism uses fats as a source of energy. Proteins take the second place, whereas consumption of carbohydrates is limited to 0-40 g per day.
Atkins considers that you cannot eat more carbohydrates because ketosis will not take place. Ketosis is a process accompanying weight loss. If organism doesn’t receive carbohydrates, level of glycogen and fat in liver and muscle tissues decreases.
Glucose deficiency influences formation of ketoses and decreases level of fat. If ketosis concentration in organism exceeds a certain level, ketosis takes place. The appetite also decreases. Sometimes it brings to euphoria, accompanied by befogged conscience.
“Low-carb, high-protein diets call for limiting just those foods that contain the anti oxidants and phytochemicals that tight cancer and other chronic diseases. At the same time, they encourage taking a second helping of foods laden with the kind of fat that promotes disease” [3]
In spite of the fact that Atkins wants to decrease level of cholesterol and triglyceride in organism, big quantities of fats, proteins, cholesterol and purine have negative impact on health. “Atkins diet plan menus average 60-75% of calories from fat, and even his more permissive diets contains an insignificant quantity of fruit” [10 It can result in atherosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, and heart attacks. Furthermore, such diet increases the risk of stone formation in gall bladder and liver. Constipations are among side effects because of carbohydrate and cellulose deficiency.

Господа. Вот новомодная диета. Пишут, что с помущью этого, приводит в норму свой вес вожди России. Я знаю людей которые реально худели на 15 кг за два месяца.
Кто что думает об этой диете?
На мой взгляд голодновато.

ребят, кому как, а во время двух недельного отдыха от треньки сел на ету диету и 7 кг. как с куста, плюс рельефнее сал и пресс сразу появился. Курица гриль, крабовый салат, куриные грудки в грибном соусе и многое ещё чего раньше в диетах и представить не мог. Ещё неделя на первой втягивающей недели треньки 1 кг. ИМХО просто супер во время запланированного отдыха от треньки, но не более 2-3 недель, потому что именно в этот отрезок самый большой сгон лишнего веса. Для тех у кого более 20 кг. лишнего веса можно и больше. Для себя один минус твёрдый стул, в первый раз по неопытности чуть попу себе на британский флаг не порвал , но потом узнал как это обойти и минусов вооще не стало.


P.S. ИМХО очень даже ничего.
