I tossed the idea back and forth for about four weeks now and finally decided that the Olympia is not in the cards for me this year. The Olympia is not the kind of show you hope to show up at your best for, if your not your best then last place is a guarantee.
I’ve decided to focus on the 2012 FLEX Pro and the 2012 ASC. I was very unhappy with the way I looked at the 2011 ASC and I am doing everything in my power to make sure this time I have had off has really healed my injury. I have been in the gym the last week at about 75% and feel really good. The elbow feels like it did when I was 22 and there is nothing more I could really ask for. A lot of people told me “oh that treatment doesn’t work;” I ignored them and went through with it anyway. I couldn’t have made a better decision!
My training partners hate me now. They have been on their own for 6 weeks and I don’t think they’ve been carrying the torch with full force. I got back last week at about 40% didn’t really push too hard but this week was different! I got in there with a vision of reigniting that fire under everyone’s ass including myself. Monday was legs, after we were done both partners told me off and said they wished I was still hurt…lol, I love it! Tuesday was more of the same with Shoulders and Triceps and I plan on the rest of the week being the same way.
No more bull****, no more time off, no more slacking and rehabbing, I am back and feeling healthier than I felt before the tear. I am ready to blast through all my old plateaus and bring a brand new package to the IFBB stage next year AGAIN!
I have made a change to my diet upon my return to the gym, something new I wanted to try to see how my body would respond. I have always done the high protein, moderate carb, and moderate fat type diet. For the next couple months I am going to try and lower the protein and increase the carbs and see how my body responds. Will I grow? Or will I just get fat? Lol Its gonna look something like this:
MEAL #1
75g Whey
2 Cups Oats Dry
1 Apple
MEAL #2
10oz Ground Steak
2 Cups Rice
¼ Cup Lentils
1 Apple
MEAL #3
10oz White & Dark Meat Turkey
14oz Potato
MEAL #4
10oz Tilapia
2 Cups Rice
1tbsp Olive Oil
MEAL #5
10oz White & Dark Meat Turkey
14oz Potato
1 Apple
MEAL #6
8 Egg Whites
4 Whole Eggs
2tbsp P.B
It’s not too different from what I’m used to but much more carbs for sure. I don’t think it will hurt me in anyway; I will definitely grow, my only fear is that I will get a little fatter than I like but I’ll keep an eye on it.
If any of you are thinking of trying out the diet just remember the protein weights are raw and the carb weights are cooked unless written otherwise. Also remember that I’m weighing in around 280lbs right now so adjust the cals to your weight so you don’t have to stuff yourself daily

This off-season has been one riddled with adversity for me. Not all bad adversity, some highs like getting engaged and some lows like having to sit out for 6-8 weeks rehabbing my elbows and knees. That being said, all the distractions are done, my show went off without a hitch and I have nothing else planned except for growing and making even more improvements for 2012.
At my show when I guest posed I was weighing in at 265lbs and not really liking the way I looked. I felt like my muscles were empty and nothing was ‘popping’ except for my gut! It was an embarrassing guest posing to say the least. Taking that into consideration I decided that it was time to make some changes and really go back to basics with my physique.
Staying lean for most of the last two to three years paid off when it came time to dieting but looking back I feel like some of my injuries, aches and pains were caused by just not eating enough. The reason I say this is, in the last three weeks I have added 28lbs to my frame and although I look a little like a fat ass, I am killing it in the gym!
No, I’m still not the strongest bodybuilder in the world, but the feeling I have when training is insane. I almost feel like trying to stay lean all the time was causing me to overtrain slightly. I like to do a lot of sets and really keep the pace high when training, that type of training without a large surplus of food could cause overtraining. This could also lead to the aches, pains and minor injury.
In the last three weeks I have flipped my training upside down and in fact it’s just what the doctor ordered. I have dropped all my sets sometimes doing one all out set to failure for some exercises; on top of that I have doubled my calories and rest. So this is the equation:
Tons of food + Tons of rest + Low volume lifting = Stronger, Bigger, Feeling Better
So, currently I am sitting at 293lbs and not caring about body fat just size and strength. I know its not the current fad in bodybuilding, its seems to be a lost art. Put on tons of size and then get shredded is an old way of thinking, but I did it for eight successful years earning a pro card and getting my feet wet in the IFBB. Now its time to go back to it and see if it can pay the dividends it did early on in my career.
The FLEX Pro is only a few short months away now and I am feeling better about it then ever. I am not trying to beat anyone coming to the show, my goal this year is to make sure I make improvements to the 2011 version of me, and if I can do that I think the chips will fall in the right place as they have in the past.

Were into week seven now and I’m finally feelin it. I started out the diet on 120g of carbs a day which isn’t horrible but is pretty low for me when I was sitting at 300lbs and used to eating five times that. From 120g we dropped to 70g, which was ****ty but for some reason I was dealing with it.
Now I am back around 120g but holy f*&^ I am starving! Lol Each meal is going down faster than I can cook it. I’ve resorted to all my old diet habits like, my organizational OCD. I can’t stop cleaning and organizing different files for some reason. Another one is shopping. It doesn’t matter if I’m spending money on me, my girl, or the dog, I just have to find a way to get out and look for **** to buy. For some reason its something that happens to me when I diet but I’ve grown to expect it and actually embrace it lol.
Seriously though, things are awesome right now. I’m sitting around 270-72lbs and the skin is starting to thin already but somehow even with the low carbs my muscle still feels relatively full.
Cardio has gone up to two a days since after Christmas and since I have a Stairmaster at home it makes it pretty easy to get in a nice long session just before my last meal. Right now I’m doing empty stomach in the morning, training midday and cardio again before my last meal. The last meal is just protein so needless to say I am burning through the night and waking up leaner every morning.
Training is good, I have decreased the weights a little but trying to keep it as heavy as I can. For example, in the offseason I would bench 405lbs with ease now I don’t really bother with it since I don’t want to just end up with 4-5 reps. Regardless of the weight though I am killin it every day in the gym and each workout is more intense than the last. There is no way I’m letting the low carb diet work me into the ground, mind over matter baby!
Not sure how many of you know what a playoff beard is. I’m pretty sure its common knowledge but for those of you who don’t; a playoff beard is something that hockey players started doing when the playoffs started for them. They wouldn’t shave the beard until they were eliminated or until they won the championship (Stanley Cup). I’ve decided in the tradition of my Canadian heritage I am also going to start my own playoff beard lol.
The pic you guys are looking at is after about four days growth and it looks pretty thick….**** by the time I get to the FLEX Pro I might look like Osama. Just think, when I win the FLEX I’m going to have to keep it going forward into the Arnold since that’s the big show!
Who knows, its itchy as **** right now and my girl hates it, I’m gonna try and hold out but at the end of the day she’s the boss. I know I’m supposed to be wearing the pants but what’s the point if she won’t go near them..lol
