A "Pro Bodybuilding Daily" Report
ProBodybuildingDaily.com: What have you been up to lately in 2009?
Jay Cutler: I’m starting to travel now and I had my first charity training camp out in Los Angeles at Muscle Beach training some people over the weekend. It’s just business as usual with me and everything’s starting to pick up. Even with the slower economy things are coming around and I’m pretty much booked as full as I’ve ever been.
As for training, I’m on a new schedule now working out twice a day with weights.
PBD.com: You’re now training with Hany Rambod. What was the reason for your move to training with him and have you noticed any results with a new trainer?
Jay Cutler: I started working out with a new training system called the FST program. For me, I wanted to try something different. I obviously lost the Olympia title so I wanted to see what I could do to improve. At this point I’m keeping an open mind with my training and trying to keep it real and see what improvements I can make for 2009. I feel I only lost the Mr. Olympia on conditioning, so I think my physique still has the ability to win and right now I’m trying to come back with a more conditioned physique that will dominate. So far I’m rounder and fuller, but the real test is to see what happens once I diet down. The whole process right now is to get as full and round as possible so that when I do start dieting in June, I can maintain a lot of fullness and get in better condition with a lot of size – that’s what’s going to win me the Mr. Olympia.
PBD.com: What improvements are you trying to make for the 2009 Mr. Olympia. Are there any specific aspects of your physique you’re working to improve?
Jay Cutler: I’m trying to create a better balance. My physique doesn’t have many loop holes like a lot of guys so I’m just looking to come in as round as possible with more conditioning.
PBD.com: We’re very close to the 2009 Arnold Classic competition. What do you think the top 3 will look like and why?
Jay Cutler: I still think it’s Victor’s show to win if he comes back strong from his injury. I expect Toney Freeman to be in the mix along with Kai Green and Branch Warren. The Arnold Classic is the second best title in the world so these guys are going to have to be in shape. I think the more aesthetic guys will have a better chance to win the show compared to the mass monsters. Branch could be as high as second but to win the show we’re looking at someone like Victor Martinez because he has better shape plus a lot of size also.
PBD.com: Obviously you feel that you’re going to win the 2009 Mr. Olympia but do you think Dexter will be the biggest threat to you or do you see somebody like Victor, Phil or Branch being your biggest competition?
Jay Cutler: There are so many great guys that it makes it tough to say. Obviously Dexter has the title so he’s definitely the man on the radar to beat, but anyone of these guys is good enough to win the show if they can put it all together that day. The physiques these days are incredible because everyone has potential to walk home with the Sandow.
PBD.com: You’ve been a member of Team MuscleTech for quite some time. They always seem to have the biggest presence at the Arnold Classic venue. Any insight into what we can expect to see this year?
Jay Cutler: This will be the best booth setup Team MuscleTech has ever had and they’ll be giving free products and samples away as usual. There’s going to be a ton of fans and we’ll have all the top athletes there signing autographs and probably posing down. It’s going to get crazy so don’t miss it!
